Your choice of location is not limited in Scotland and you can be married anywhere you like, whether that’s in a hotel, a country estate, in a church, your own garden, a military garrison, underneath a waterfall, or up a mountain. I’ll even walk to get to where you are if you live somewhere truly remote (and there are still a few of those places left where there’s no car access at all).
Leanne and Lewis were married on an exceptionally blustery day high up in the Cairngorms. The gusts were coming at us at over 50mph and it all just added to the fun, as well as some spectacular photographs and memories.
And in a slightly calmer environment than the Cairngorms, Tanya and Callum were married in the lovely little Bona Church overlooking Loch Ness. Some couples opt for a traditional prayer for their ceremony and would like a religious reading, but whatever you choose, rest assured that your ceremony will still be all about you as a couple.
Every wedding I conduct is as individual as your location. Whether you want to have traditional or funny vows, they will be the highlight of your wedding and I’ll be here to help if you’re stuck for ideas. You might be from different cultures or belief backgrounds so whatever you want to have included in your ceremony is your choice. Sacred texts and readings, blessings, funny stories, prayers, songs – all of these go into making your ceremony absolutely bespoke.
If you’re thinking of coming from overseas, the romance of Scotland - of its places and its people - is legendary, so what better reason would you have than to call this beautiful country your home (for a few days at least) and to celebrate one of the most important days of your life immersed in the beautiful landscape, the history and the culture its history and culture. There are so many customs which make a wedding here so uniquely Scottish, and you'll soon understand why so many people travel thousands of miles to come to the Highlands to make their special vows.
Your venue and location are only limited by your imagination and are as individual as you are.
Jess and Joel from Australia, chose to head up on the gondola and get married on Aonoch Mor in Northern Scotland. This is what they had to say about their day:
We were very blessed to have Glynis as part of our special day. At the start of our journey all the way from Australia to the Scottish Highlands, Glynis made us feel very comfortable and took the time to deliver a very intimate experience that we will cherish forever. Glynis was professional, warm and spoke true from the heart, delivering a beautiful ceremony that we will never forget.
Some couples like to renew their vows for special occasions, or after a long period of marriage. Karen and John from Inverness did just that to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary in North Scotland, in one of their favourite spots overlooking the River Ness.
We met Glynis and felt she was the right person for us straight away. She was able to pick out our feelings and thoughts that made our day very special, professional and organised and exactly what we were looking for.
And Kathryn and Mike came all the way to Scotland from Kansas to renew their vows after 45 years together. One of their favourite places in the world is the beautiful Balnagown Estate and they said 'I do' all over again in a specially built gazebo on the banks of the river. To make their vows even more special, they used a heart-shaped oathing stone they'd found the day before in the Balnagown River.
Natalie and Thomas have been childhood sweethearts and chose to renew their wedding vows 27 years later in a beautiful ceremony with all their children and grandchildren around them.
What a joy in the midst of all the Covid crisis to conduct a very special double wedding! Brother and sister Adina and Oz wed their respective partners, Bob and Meg, in an enchanted forest setting two days before Christmas. Acting as each other's witnesses, no-one else attended, although it was live-streamed to their friends and family. Intimate and joyful, it was proof positive that it's the love between couples and the vows they make to each other that are important, no matter how many people are there to witness them in person. This is what they had to say about the ceremony:
Glynis was the celebrant for our “Double Covid wedding” on December 23rd and we were blown away by what an incredibly beautiful ceremony she did for us. Our ceremony was completely tailored to us, telling our individual love stories in such a beautifully romantic way. Thank you Glynis, for being a huge part of our magical day.
Zoe and Paul were another wedding couple who made the decision to have their wedding with only 17 guests present and it was conducted in one of the smaller rooms at Drumossie Hotel in Inverness after which they had photographs taken in the gardens. Although their gorgeous rescue dog didn't attend the wedding itself, she slept patiently elsewhere before making her modelling debut with mum and dad! The other star of that show (apart from the beautiful bride and groom) was most definitely the bride's young nephew Cole, their little ring bearer - and you can read my blog on working with children and animals which I love doing.
We chose Glynis at Highland Ceremonies for our wedding day as she was recommended by a friend for a relaxed, intimate lockdown wedding. From the very first phone call we we were put at ease and had all of our questions answered. Our ceremony was so perfectly suited to us, and we've had nothing but compliments on the style of our wedding and our ceremony, with huge credit to Glynis. Glynis has a comforting and calming nature which was extremely appreciated over our 6 week planning period! Planning in such a short time might seem like a stress without giving full attention to every individual detail, but choosing to have Glynis officiate our day was one of the easiest decisions to make, and we are so grateful to have had her there.
We'll have an initial meeting during which I'll talk to you as a couple. This will give me an opportunity to really get to know you as a couple - how you met, who you are, and what you want in life together. You never know, you may find out more about each other in this meeting, too. We'll also discuss in depth the style of ceremony you would like. Following that meeting, I'll work on creating your bespoke ceremony. I'll edit your script as many times as you like until we have the perfect ceremony for you. Nearer your big day, you may want to have a wedding rehearsal if you like (not all couples do!) on a mutually agreed date and time. On the big day itself, I'll conduct your wedding ceremony and you'll be given a presentation folder with a copy of your ceremony to keep.
